Microsoft Lync: Communicating with Communities

Video Conferencing, chat, and document-sharing program “Microsoft Lync” offers broader communication with communities

At CAP Management, we’re always trying to be sure we’re engaging with the communities we manage and a new computer program called “Microsoft Lync” is helping us do a better job of that!

As the saying goes, “communication is key,” and there are always challenges to making sure we’re properly reaching out to our HOAs and that they’re able to reach us back. We know that with busy schedules it’s sometimes impossible for homeowners to attend board meetings. Some property owners in HOAs we manage reside outside the state or even outside the country. It’s hard to be in the same room at the same time. We often find ourselves wondering how we can do a better job being there for our customers.

Microsoft Lync will allow us to offer an alternative to making board meetings in person by adding the option to tune in over the web.

Think of Microsoft Lync as an advanced version of “Skype” with more possibilities. Just like Skype, Lync allows virtual attendees to communicate from their laptop, desktop, or tablet with a camera and microphone. If you have young children who need supervision, you could stay in and tune in from the kitchen table. If mobility is an issue, join us from the comfort of your home. If you’re living abroad, use Lync to virtually join the meeting back in Colorado.

But Lync is more feature-rich than its predecessors. A few cool examples:
  • Document sharing
  • Instant messaging
  • PowerPoint sharing
  • Meeting recording (allowing those who missed it to tune in later!)

We understand that everyone is working on different levels of competency on computers. Rest assured, we’ll take care of the complicated part. Lync doesn’t require any downloads to join meetings. All you’ll need is a computer with internet access and an invite URL from us. And we’ll be sure to send detailed instructions for how to join prior to any meeting featuring a Lync session.

Stay tuned for updates on this new product and we hope to see you soon!

PS: Here at CAP, we value interaction and communication which is why we’re working to offer this new service. We want to stress that attending a meeting in person is still the best way to interact and make decisions with your neighbors.
